Statements about basalt

Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development consider basalt fiber “the green industrial material of the XXI-century”, stressing its ecological safety, natural longevity and many other properties. Reuters in its report stressed that, based on region, the global basalt fiber market has been categorized as North America, Europe, Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East & Africa. Europe and North America are expected to hold significant shares of the global market which can be attributed to the high demand for lightweight and strong materials in the automotive and construction industry. Market forecast. The basalt fiber market is forecasted to grow from USD 227 million in 2019 to USD 397 million by 2024, at a CAGR of 11.8% between 2019 and 2024. The market is growing due to the high demand from construction & infrastructure, automotive & transportation, and electrical & electronics end-use industries . According to the Reuters, the demand for basalt fiber has increased significantly over the past couple of years. Hence, to respond to the growing demand, manufactures are investing in increasing of production capacities. For instance, in 2017, Jilin Huayang New Composite Materials Co., Ltd opened a production plant with an annual capacity of 30,000 tons of basalt fiber.

Technology of production

The idea to produce the basalt fiber from basalt rock was implemented by French Paul Dhé, who received U.S. patent in 1923. In 1960s, the production technology for basalt fiber was tested in Ukraine and new areas of application were found by the USA and Soviet Union (USSR) mainly in military field. This project is based on the technology developed by the Scientific Research Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Ukrainian scientists who developed the technology, own patents that protect their exclusive rights technology application. The technology allows to create the fiber with exceptional characteristics out of basalt rock. It is worth noting that both the manufacturing and the product itself are non-polluting.

Cooperation with EU companies

Such companies as TOTAL, BMW, Michelin, Airbus, and other construction companies from Europe indicated interest in our technology of production of basalt materials and are currently testing the characteristics of the product, to adjust it to their needs.

The actuality of the project for Egypt

The strategic position of the Egypt for development and production of basalt fiber is strengthened not only by its close geographical position to the rising European basalt fiber market and by the fact of the signature of Association Agreement between Egypt and the EU, but also that the Middle East & Africa basalt fiber market is expected to grow significantly on the account of rising investments in the infrastructure development. Egyptian company named First Trade will be managing the following for Basalt in Cairo. “First Trade” has knowledge and expertise in manufacturing, installation, maintenance and support, and wishes to procure a limited, exclusive license for the production incorporating the Basalt Products for commercial or governmental uses in the Egypt.
